I once heard an awful sound coming from a creek bed. I looked and saw a duck shrieking at a fox. A cluster of ducklings were gathered on the other side of the mother duck. And the fox was just pacing back and forth in front of the cacophonous duck. The blaring was so assertive that I started to believe that the fox was in for a hard time. It was as though the mother duck was shouting, “You can kill and eat us all, but you’re going to lose an eye.” And I believe that was the message that the fox received because it took its leave and the ducks moved on in peace.
